Some frequently asked questions
Q: Do I need a doctors' referral for treatment by an osteopath, physiotherapist or acupuncturist?
A: No, but you GP may refer you. Osteopaths and physiotherapists are musculoskeletal specialists and many GP's send patients to a regisertered osteopath or chartered physiotherapist for treatment. If you have private medical insurance you may need to contact your insurance company to authorise reimbursement for treatment.

Q: How many treatment sessions will I need?
A: Some patients require only one or two sessions, others require a longer course of treatment. It depends on how complex the problem is and how long you have had the problem. Your osteopath or physiotherapist will discuss this with you.
Q: Are Osteopaths governed by a statutory body?
A: An osteopath is required to register with the General Osteopathic Council (GOC) which ensures a high standard of care for patients.
Q: Are Physiotherapists governed by a statutory body?
A: The regulatory body for physiotherapists is the Health Professions Council (HPC) of which all practicing therapists must be a member.
The Professional body representing physiotherapists is the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (MCSP).
